The Recruitment Process

 We want to make sure your recruitment experience here at MCHFT goes as smoothly and successfully as possible. This information will help guide you through the process and hopefully provide you with some useful tips.

 I’ve been shortlisted!

 Well done.  The first thing we'd recommend is that you work out your route to the Trust.  Once you know how to get here and how long it will take you, you can start to prepare for the interview itself.

 What will happen at the interview/ assessment?

 This depends on the job you have been shortlisted for. Details of how the day will run will be included in the information we send you prior to attending.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Recruitment Officer who is handling your application.

 How should I prepare for my interview?

 Here are a few pointers on how to prepare.

  •  Read everything we send to you about the content of the role.

  • Be prepared to discuss your previous job.

  • Be prepared to discuss the information in your application.

  • Be prepared to explain any gaps in employment and anything else which may need putting into context e.g. a criminal conviction.

  • Prepare specific examples to demonstrate you have what it takes to do the job. Good candidates are able to discuss their achievements and reflect on experiences which haven’t been so successful in terms of what was learnt.

  • Think about your motivation; why do you want this job at this Trust.

  • Be clear about the Trust’s priorities.

  • Ensure your knowledge of the job, your profession and the wider NHS is current.

  • Stay calm. We want you to do your best.

The Star Model

 It's important to think of some of the things you'd like to discuss with the recruitment panel before the interview.  This way you will be better prepared to really showcase yourself.  When preparing your examples the STAR model is a helpful tool in terms of structuring your responses.

Situation - describe the situation
Task - describe the task YOU undertook
Action - describe the action YOU took
Result - describe the result YOU achieved

 What happens after my interview?

 The panel will advise you at interview about how and when they'll let you know the outcome.   Generally you will either receive a telephone call or a message via NHS Jobs.
