About us

Friday: 08.30 – 16.00

The Postgraduate Medical Centre aims to play the leading role in providing, coordinating and facilitating high quality Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (PGMDE) and Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Our ultimate aim is to improve the quality of health care for the population covered by the local health care services, by PGMDE (which focuses on training of junior staff) and CME (which targets senior staff both Consultant and non-Consultant career grade staff).

Students in the Southern Sector of the University of Manchester are based at Leighton Hospital. Their education also falls within the domain of the education team in the Postgraduate Medical Centre.

A wide range of activities are organised and take place in the centre. Information is published on the notice boards, as are details of any upcoming postgraduate courses and meetings held elsewhere.

Our Trust

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) is the organisation that manages Leighton Hospital, Crewe; the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich and Elmhurst Intermediate care Centre, Winsford.

The Trust was originally established as an NHS trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008. It employs more than 4,000 members of staff and has around 540 hospital beds. A range of services, including A&E, maternity, outpatients, therapies and children's health are provided for people predominantly from the Crewe, Nantwich, Congleton, Middlewich and Northwich areas, although patients from other areas are also cared for.

In October 2005 the Trust opened a purpose-built NHS Treatment Centre, specialising in day surgery and diagnostics for a range of conditions. In 2008, the Trust supported the opening of a Macmillan Cancer Unit, one of the most modern in the country, which provides a range of cancer treatments and services for patients across Cheshire. The Treatment Centre underwent significant redevelopment and reopened in August 2015.
