Volunteers Spring Clean Hospital Garden
Volunteers help out in the Coronary Care Unit's garden space

After spending a recent Wednesday morning weeding, pruning and painting, volunteers from the Enterprise Education Alliance, Reaseheath College and the Cheshire East Youth Team have transformed the Coronary Care Unit’s garden at Leighton Hospital into a beautiful outdoor space for its patients.

Emma Clarke, Voluntary Services Manager at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which manages the Crewe-based hospital, was delighted with the success of the project and hopes that this will be the first of many new partnerships that bring community groups into the hospital for specific projects.

Emma said: “We are very fortunate to have a dedicated team of volunteers at the hospital who come in on a regular basis, but sometimes we have projects like the Coronary Care garden that are suited to specific community groups.

“The Trust would like to thank all those that gave so generously to help achieve this project. From the volunteers of all ages who gave up their free time to the staff members and Minshull’s Garden Centre who contributed plants to be put in the newly prepared garden.

“It was great to see so many young people who were willing to get involved and it was a nice reminder that there are many young adults in our community who care and want to give something back.”

Future projects are set to include work on the garden areas for the Stroke ward, the Rehabilitation ward and Critical Care. If any individuals or groups are interested in lending a helping hand or donating materials to be used in the projects, please contact Emma on 01270 612311 or email emma.clarke@mcht.nhs.uk.
